The Montana Girls State program is sponsored by the American Legion and is hosted at our state capital, Helena, MT.
"Citizens of Girl State will not only review knowledge already acquired concerning the political machinery in the State, but they will perform exactly the same duties as real office holders in the everyday world. They will elect their own officers in the manner prescribed by Montana election procedure. They will set up their city government, pass and enforce their own ordinances. They will organize their own legislature where they will present and argue their own bills. They will have their own laws, enforced by their own officials. Each girl will have the opportunity to learn first hand that government is just what she makes." - Montana Girls State Website
Delegates are sent from each school from around the state and are chosen through the schools individual process. Butte Central has a peer nomination process coupled with a teacher recommendation and essay review. To become a delegate you must show an aptitude towards the political process and be an excellent representative of your school.
