A New Face of Maroon Pride: Meet Shamrock

BUTTE, MT — After more than a century of tradition, Butte Central Catholic Schools has a new member of the Maroon family.

During Homecoming Week 2026, Butte Central proudly introduced Shamrock, an Irish wolf pup, as the school's first-ever official mascot. The exciting reveal took place on Homecoming Day at the Butte Elementary Gym, where students, faculty, and members of the Butte Central football team gathered to welcome Shamrock to the Maroon family.

For generations, Butte Central students have proudly called themselves the Maroons, but the school never had an official mascot to represent that spirit. Shamrock now fills that role while honoring the traditions and values that have made Butte Central special for more than a century.

Shamrock is more than just a new face at athletic events. The Irish wolf pup was chosen to symbolize the grit, strength, loyalty, and resilience that have long been part of the Butte Central identity.

And while Shamrock may be an Irish wolf, there is no change to the school's proud identity.

Butte Central will always be the Maroons.

Shamrock simply gives the Maroon family a new way to bring that identity to life.

The introduction was especially fitting during Homecoming Week, a time when alumni, families, students, faculty, and supporters come together to celebrate what makes Butte Central unique. Students quickly embraced their new mascot, with the excitement building as Shamrock made his first appearance in front of the school community.

“I think that’s pretty cool,” one Butte Central student said. “Our school really needed that to bring pride.”

Shamrock's arrival also gives younger Maroons someone they can recognize and cheer for at games, pep rallies, school celebrations, and community events. From the halls of Butte Central to the sidelines at Maroon athletic contests, Shamrock is ready to become a familiar and beloved part of the school community.

After more than 100 years without an official mascot, the wait is finally over.

The future is bright, the tradition continues, and there is a new member of the pack ready to lead the way.
