Laverne Combo Thanksgiving Dinner “A Special BC Tradition”

Don Peoples, Jr.

Throughout the years there have been many great BC Traditions. The Laverne Combo

Thanksgiving Dinner is certainly one of the special events that proudly celebrates the

giving spirit of Catholic education.

On Tuesday, November 18, 2025, a record 685 meals were served to the Butte

community. The event, which started in the 1970’s, has provided Thanksgiving meals to

the elderly, homebound, and to many community members in need.

The project encompasses weeks of planning and preparation, and the entire student body plays a role. Butte Central Theology teacher Becky Peoples served as the coordinator for the dinner and did an amazing job organizing the event. Over 605 meals were delivered, 65 guests were served in the BC gym, and 20 meals were picked up at the high school kitchen.

The entire BC student body and many faculty and staff members volunteered to make

the event successful. Students made calls in advance of the dinner, helped set up the

gym for guests, and worked hard in many capacities. They served the food, assisted the kitchen staff, and welcomed the guests into the gym. The biggest undertaking of the night was the delivery of over 600 meals throughout the Mining City.

Activities Director Chad Petersen played a major role in coordinating deliveries

throughout the community. In addition to hundreds of Butte residents, meals were

delivered to the homeless shelter, Continental Gardens, Beehive Homes, Legion Oasis,

Leggit Apartments, Columbus Plaza, Elm Street Apartments, Rosalie Manor, and Silver

Bow Homes. Peoples praised the efforts of students and their dedication to the event. “Our students were amazing, and they worked so hard,” said Peoples. “It takes village to have this dinner and our students really stepped up.”

Peoples received an email from the staff at Continental Gardens thanking the students and praising how kind they were to the residents. Hearing that compliment seemed to make the entire event worth all the effort. It certainly represents Butte Central’s strong commitment to serving others.

A big shout out goes to Peggy Boyle and her incredible kitchen crew of ladies. These dedicated Maroon supporters are at the heart of this outstanding BC tradition. A special thanks to all those who helped make the 2025 Laverne Combo Thanksgiving Dinner such a great success!
