It was another busy week for the Maroons, with football, volleyball, and cross country all in action. Here’s a look back at how Butte Central teams fared on the fields, courts, and courses.
Friday Night Lights: Football on Fire
The BC football team brought plenty of sparks — literally. On Friday, Sept. 12, the Maroons exploded to a 40-0 lead over Ronan before lightning storms forced the game to be called early in Missoula.
Quarterback Ryan Peoples was electric, tossing five touchdown passes and running in another himself. Touchdown grabs came from Jack Nagle, Jaxon Hiatt, GG Fantini, Henley Mansanti, and Treigh Hollow. Even in a shortened game, BC showed off a deep and dangerous offense that spread the ball around.
The win comes just a week after BC’s dramatic 17-16 victory over Hardin, sealed by senior Jack Nagle’s clutch 32-yard field goal as time expired. Nagle earned Athlete of the Week honors for his heroics, while Peoples is quickly earning the same spotlight after his six-score performance against Ronan.
The Maroons look confident and battle-tested as conference play heats up.
On the Court: Volleyball Battles at Ronan
The Butte Central volleyball squad hit the road on Saturday, Sept. 13 to take on Ronan. The Maroons fell in straight sets 25-12, 25-17, 26-24, but showed resilience late, nearly pushing the match into a fourth set.
Though BC is still looking for its first win of the season, the competitive third set highlighted their fight and growth as a team. With more experience, this group has the pieces to turn close sets into victories.
On the Run: Cross Country Keeps Pace
The Maroons also kept busy on the trails this week.
On Sept. 9, BC hosted their annual Butte Central Invitational at Fairmont Hot Springs, welcoming teams from around the region.
On Sept. 13, they traveled to the Corvallis Invite, where freshman Ashley White turned in a solid Varsity Girls’ finish at 25:09.0, placing 32nd in a strong field.
Cross country is showing steady development, with young runners gaining experience and posting competitive times.
Looking Ahead
Momentum is building across BC athletics. Football is proving it can win in both dramatic fashion and dominant fashion. Volleyball is learning to close out tight sets, and cross country runners are making strides week by week.
The fall season is still young, but if this past week is any indication, Maroon fans have plenty to cheer about.
Go Maroons!
