Maroons Grit Their Way Through Tough Weekend

Butte Central’s wrestling program took another step forward over the weekend, grinding through an early-season test that showed both its depth and its developing leadership. The Maroons used a busy slate of matches to build on the foundation they have laid through the opening weeks of the 2025–26 campaign.

Busy weekend on the mat

Butte Central was part of a packed prep wrestling schedule that had the Maroons in mixer-style action, giving athletes from multiple weight classes several matches in a single outing. Those events followed closely on the heels of the recent MAC mixer in Butte, where the Maroons hosted Havre and Corvallis and proved they could compete hard across the lineup.

The coaching staff again emphasized pace and effort, asking wrestlers to stay active from whistle to whistle and treat every position as a scoring opportunity. That mentality helped turn several tight bouts into late wins as BC athletes finished periods with strong flurries and solid rides on top.

Building on early-season momentum

The weekend work fit neatly into the bigger picture for a team that entered the season determined to “reclaim toughness and tradition” within Class A wrestling. With a roster that blends returning varsity experience and hungry newcomers, Butte Central continues to sharpen its technique and conditioning against quality competition from around the region.

As the schedule pushes toward the holiday break and large events like the CMR Holiday Classic, the Maroons’ focus remains simple: stack good days in the practice room and turn them into more complete performances on tournament days. If the trajectory from the opening weeks holds, Butte Central will be a team to watch when divisional and state tournaments roll around later this winter.
