Maroons Set for Busy Winter Weekend on Court, Mat, and in the Pool

Butte Central fans have a busy weekend ahead, with Maroons teams splitting time between home and road dates as winter sports hit full stride.

Weekend at a glance

  • Boys basketball travels to Stevensville on Saturday for a key Western A road test in the afternoon.

  • Girls basketball hosts Stevensville at the MAC on Saturday, giving the Maroons a home‑court conference showcase.

  • BC wrestling continues its weekend at the Madison Invite in Rexburg on Saturday, with action beginning at 9:00 a.m.

  • The Maroons swim team will compete at the Butte High Invitational at the Butte Family YMCA on Saturday, with time trials starting at noon.

Boys basketball: road to Stevensville

The Butte Central boys head into an early‑January trip to Stevensville looking to grab an important conference win and keep momentum building in league play. The afternoon varsity tip will test the Maroons’ ability to handle pressure, rebound in a tough gym, and execute late in each quarter.

Sub‑varsity games on the road give younger players another opportunity to gain experience in a true away environment, an important piece of development for the rest of the season. Depth and defensive energy from the bench will be key factors as the day unfolds.

Girls basketball: home vs. Stevensville

On the girls side, Butte Central will be at home on Saturday, welcoming Stevensville to the MAC for a Western A matchup that gives the Maroons a chance to defend their own floor. Playing in front of the home crowd should provide a boost in energy as the team looks to tighten half‑court execution and build confidence in conference play.

Expect defense and rebounding to be at the center of the game plan, with the Maroons aiming to turn stops into transition points and keep Stevensville off balance. With multiple lineup options available, coaches can mix rotations to find the best matchups over four quarters.

Wrestling: Madison Invite in Rexburg

Butte Central wrestling spends the weekend on the road at the Madison Invite in Rexburg, with Saturday’s rounds starting at 9:00 a.m. and offering a full slate of matches. The tournament format provides valuable mat time and a look at a wide range of opponents, giving wrestlers chances to sharpen technique and test conditioning.

Coaches will emphasize scoring late in periods, winning scrambles, and capitalizing on opportunities from the top position. Strong January tournament performances help set the stage for divisional and state qualifying later in the season.

Swimming: Butte High Invitational

The BC swim team stays close to home, joining the field at the Butte High Invitational at the Butte Family YMCA, where time trials are scheduled to start at noon on Saturday. The meet offers Maroon swimmers a chance to chase season‑best marks, refine race strategies, and get more experience in a championship‑style session.

With events across all strokes and distances, coaches can evaluate training progress and identify where adjustments are needed heading into the late‑season push. Competing in Butte also allows family, classmates, and community members to fill the stands and provide a loud home‑town atmosphere.

Maroon fans at home and on the road

With girls basketball at the MAC, boys basketball in Stevensville, wrestling in Rexburg, and swimming at the YMCA, this weekend highlights the full range of Butte Central winter sports. Maroon fans are encouraged to pack the home gym, make the road trip when possible, and show support for athletes on the court, the mat, and in the pool.
