BC to DC: Big Cities, Big Memories, and a Trip to Remember

Last week, 22 adventurous 8th graders set out on an unforgettable journey-better known as BC to DC. Alongside nine dedicated adults, our group traded Montana mountains for monuments, subways, skyscrapers, and a whole lot of walking!

Our first stop: Washington, D.C.. From the moment we arrived, it was go, go, go. Students stood where history happened-walking the steps of the Lincoln Memorial, reflecting at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, and exploring world-class exhibits at the Smithsonian museums. A highlight for many was visiting the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, where students connected deeply with topics they’ve been studying in class.

Then it was off to the bright lights of New York City. From the energy of Times Square to the powerful experience at the National September the 11 Memorial, students got a true taste of city life. Of course, no NYC trip is complete without a Broadway show, and that was a crowd favorite!

Somewhere between navigating busy streets, trying new foods, and logging thousands of steps, something special happened-students grew. They gained independence, strengthened friendships, and saw firsthand how what they learn in the classroom connects to the real world.

Trips like BC to DC don’t just create memories- they build perspective.
