Beau McGree Is Off to a Strong Start This Golf Season
Butte Central junior Beau McGree has picked up right where he left off, and the Maroons' golf program is feeling the benefit.
A Fast Start Out of the Gate
McGree opened the season with a bang, winning the BC Invite before tying Butte High's Teagan Yelenich for the title at the Butte High tournament the very next day. That tournament brought together five schools Belgrade, Butte Central, Butte High, Great Falls, and Great Falls CMR and McGree and Yelenich shared medalist honors, each carding a 74 to finish well clear of the field.
From there, the consistency continued. McGree and his younger sister Mya, who also golfs for the Maroons, landed in the top 10 at each of the team's first three meets of the season a strong sign for a program looking to build on last year's momentum.
Building on a Breakout Sophomore Season
This kind of start isn't a surprise for anyone who followed McGree last fall. As a sophomore, he was named a Butte Sports Athlete of the Week after firing a 75 to win the BC Invite title, finishing comfortably ahead of the field including his own senior teammate. He went on to close out the regular season with another runner-up finish, tying for 11th at the Butte High Invitational at Fairmont Hot Springs, and picked up an invitational win at Beaverhead by two strokes along the way.
What's Ahead
With Butte Central set to compete in more invitationals as the season progresses — including a trip to Livingston for the Park Invitational — McGree's early-season form has him positioned as one of the players to watch heading toward divisions. If his last two seasons are any indication, the Maroons' junior standout is just getting started.
