Maroons Make Their Mark on the Golf Course
The Butte Central golf team has gotten off to an impressive start to the 2026 season, with the Maroons making their presence known at tournaments across Western Montana.
Leading the way for BC has been junior **Beau McGree**, who has been one of the most consistent golfers in the field. McGree opened the season by successfully defending his title at the Butte Central Invitational, shooting an even-par **70 at Highland View Golf Course** to win the boys' individual championship by four strokes.
The strong start continued at the Butte High Invitational, where McGree tied for the individual title after carding a **74 at Fairmont Hot Springs**. He followed that performance with another victory at the Park Invitational in Livingston, shooting an even-par **72** and earning medalist honors in a scorecard playoff.
McGree added another tournament victory at the Beaverhead Invitational in Dillon, posting a **76** to win by two strokes. With multiple tournament wins and several top-10 finishes, McGree has established himself as one of the golfers to watch as the season moves toward the Western A divisional tournament.
But the Maroons' success isn't limited to the boys' side.
Freshman **Mya McGree** has also made an immediate impact during her first high school season. At the Butte Central Invitational, Mya finished second among the girls with an **89**, helping showcase the depth and promise of the young Maroon golf program.
She followed that performance with a seventh-place finish at the Ronan Invitational, shooting a **95**, and later earned another top-five finish at the Beaverhead Invitational with a **97**, placing fourth.
Most recently, Mya continued her strong freshman campaign at the East Helena Invitational, shooting a **102 at Fox Ridge Golf Course** to tie for seventh in a field of 44 girls.
The Maroon boys have also received solid contributions from **Connor Kachmarik, Cohen Stajcar, and Ganon Button**, who have helped BC compete as a team throughout the season. At the Butte Central Invitational, the Maroons finished fifth in the boys' team standings with a score of 347.
With the season continuing, the Maroons are focused on improving with every tournament and preparing for the postseason.
For Butte Central, golf is about more than individual scores. It is an opportunity for student-athletes to develop discipline, confidence, sportsmanship, and perseverance—qualities that carry well beyond the course.
With Beau leading a talented group of golfers and Mya making her mark as a freshman, the future looks bright for Maroon golf.
