Four Maroons Punch Tickets to State Wrestling Tournament

Updated: Feb 18

The Butte Central wrestling program will be well‑represented at this year’s MHSA State Wrestling Championships after a strong showing at the Western A Divisional Tournament in Dillon. The Maroons advanced four boys and one girl to the state stage, continuing a proud tradition of toughness, discipline, and steady improvement on the mat.

This year’s group features a blend of young talent and experienced leadership, reflecting the growth of a program that continues to build momentum.

Hanley Leads BC With Runner‑Up Finish

Eighth‑grader Jampel Hanley turned in one of the top performances of the weekend, finishing second at 103 pounds. Hanley enters the state tournament with a 26‑14 record, an impressive mark for a middle‑school athlete competing against high‑school opponents. His consistency and composure throughout the season have made him one of the most exciting young wrestlers in the lineup.

Armstrong, and Holmes Earn State Berths

Three additional Maroons earned their way to Billings with gritty efforts at divisionals:

  • Braydon Armstrong — 118 pounds   The eighth‑grader placed seventh and carries a 20‑14 record into the state tournament. Armstrong has shown steady improvement all season and continues to develop into a reliable competitor.

  • Jack Holmes — 132 pounds   The junior brings veteran presence to the roster and enters State with a strong 29‑9 record. Holmes placed eighth at divisionals and will look to make a deep run in a competitive weight class.

Gonzales Qualifies for Third Straight State Tournament

Junior Amira Gonzales continues to anchor the BC girls’ program, qualifying for the third time in her career. She placed fourth at 125 pounds at the divisional tournament, once again proving her consistency and competitive edge. Gonzales’ experience and leadership will be key as she competes in the all‑class girls’ state tournament.

A Program Built on Heart and Hard Work

With three eighth‑graders, one junior, and a returning multi‑year girls’ qualifier, Butte Central enters the state tournament with a promising mix of youth and experience. Coaches praised the group’s work ethic and resilience throughout the season, noting that each qualifier earned their spot through determination and steady improvement.

As the Maroons head to Billings, they carry the pride of their school and community. Whether competing for podium finishes or gaining valuable postseason experience, each wrestler represents the tradition, toughness, and spirit of Butte Central.
