Maroon Hurricane Hits Griz Stadium

The Butte Central Maroons came out on fire and put together a great 1st quarter in Washington Grizzly Stadium in Thursday's Class A contest against the Ronan Chiefs. Quarterback Ryan Peoples passed for five TD passes and rushed for another in the first quarter. The Maroons lead 40-0 before lightening forced the teams off the field with 10 minutes remaining in the 2nd quarter. Instead of waiting for the storm to pass, Ronan's Administration opted to end the game due to the lopsided outcome of the first 14 minutes. In addition to the strong offensive showing, the Maroon defense flexed its muscle and forced multiple negative plays by the Ronan offense . The Maroons held the Chiefs to a negative 27 yards and no first downs . Head Coach Don Peoples praised his team's fast start. "Our kids came out and played great football tonight and played with great focus and intensity. I'm proud of how our staff and players prepared for this game". Offensively , the Maroons scored on all 6 first quarter possessions. BC receivers Jack Nagle, Jaxon Hiatt, GG Fantini, Henley Mansanti and Treigh Hollow all had touchdown receptions in the win. Defensive highlights for the Maroons included an interception by Jaxon Hiatt and sacks by Danny McCarthy, Bobby McCarthy, Palmer Kellicut, and JJ Taylor . The victory moved the Maroons to 2-1 on the season. Next week the Maroons will have a bye. They will return home on September 26 for a Homecoming Conference Game against Corvallis.
