The Butte Central golf teams made the trip to Hamilton on September 26 for the Western A Divisional Tournament, and our Maroons came away with a lot to be proud of.
McGree Brothers Lead the Way
On the boys’ side, the Maroons finished sixth as a team with a score of 335. The competition was tough, with Corvallis taking the top spot at 296, but BC wasn’t far behind the pack.

The story of the day was the play of Will and Beau McGree, who both shot 79 and tied for seventh place individually. The brothers matched each other shot for shot and gave the Maroons two top-10 finishes—a big accomplishment in such a strong field.

Kachmarik Joins the State Crew
Connor Kachmarik also had himself a solid day, firing an 84 to earn a trip to the State Tournament. His steady play adds another qualifier for BC and shows the depth that the Maroons are building on the boys’ side.
Mya McGree Punches Her Ticket to State
On the girls’ side, Mya McGree, 8th grader was the lone Lady Maroon, shined with a 16th-place finish, which was good enough to qualify for the State Tournament as well.
Looking Ahead
With Will and Beau McGree, Connor Kachmarik, and Mya McGree all qualifying, Butte Central will send a strong group to the State Tournament. The divisional proved that BC can compete stroke for stroke with some of the best programs in Montana, and the experience gained in Hamilton will only make them stronger.
Bottom line: Butte Central golf showed grit, growth, and plenty of promise in Hamilton. Congratulations to Will, Beau, Connor, and Mya on qualifying for State! The Maroons will be well-represented when they tee it up at the next level.
Go Maroons!
