Last week, Junior High students had the opportunity to hear from Mark T. Johnson, who works at Notre Dame and specializes in Chinese history in Montana. Mr. Johnson spoke to 7th and 8th grade students about Chinese woodcutters in Uptown Butte and shared a documented incident in which Constable Owens bravely intervened to stop a mob, highlighting the importance of courage and standing up for others during times of injustice.
With 6th grade students, he focused on the daily lives of Chinese residents in Butte, helping students better understand their experiences, challenges, and contributions to the community.
